Jean-Luc Ponty came to the United States in 1967 on the recommendation of John Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet for a performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Over the course of his career, he performed and/or recorded with keyboardist George Duke and Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention, and was a longtime sideman in John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra. His first Atlantic LP, "Upon The Wings Of Music," released in 1975, is the subject of this CD reissue.
