The Avengers (Season 6 AKA Season 7) (1968-1969)

The final season of the Avengers introduced a brand new partner to fight with the stylish super-agent John Steed. Young, beautiful, and trained by the nebulous Ministry, Tara King embarks on a series of adventures alongside the bowler-hatted battler for justice. Only occasionally brandishing a gun - but never without his umbrella - John Steed derails the dastardly plans of devious schemers with the help of the dishy Tara King in the final season of The Avengers. Veteran Avengers guest stars turns up en masse at a peculiar hotel, a holiday vanishes from Steed's memory, and a talking briefcase has agents running all across London. It's business as usual for Steed and Tara.


S06E01.The Forget-Me-Knot
Steed's friend Sean Mortimer arrives at Steed's flat in a state of confusion. He cannot remember how he has got there or even who he is. He only knows that there is a traitor in the organisation. While Mortimer and Emma are captured by a pair of motorcycle villains, Steed seeks help from his Mother, meets Agent 69, and becomes the centre of suspicion himself.

Another good episode, written by Dave Freeman, offers a gun that can instantly disintegrate wood! It turns out the contents are just the beginning of major blackmail that will either be met or a huge ecological disaster will follow. The men who are murdered are either timber experts, British agents or just simply know too much. It is a hoot everytime Tara lands up in the forest.

Brian Clemens gives us more of the hard-edged Steed in this show where he warns Tara about what a deadly trickster the double-dealing Merlin (Peter Barksworth) can be, which we discover upon arrival. He also has an advanced, potent sleeping gas and when he uses it to try to escape them, the town they're in is suddenly deserted!
